"I don't give him more than a year, if that."

"Who?"

"The Chosen One. He spoke out of turn and I am sure he made the man who matters kinda angry."

"What did he say?"

"He said Musharraf will take off his uniform in 2007 and that the decision to keep wearing it was controversial."

"He has just committed political suicide."

"Yep, I agree. Remember Jamali! He lost his job because he reportedly said he will deal with Musharraf once the uniform was off."

"Indeed. But who will Musharraf take on as his next PM? I mean he has already gone through two PMs and now you say the third one has also committed hara kiri."

"This is only natural in our political landscape. And I am not only focusing on our uniformed presidents. Take Nawaz Sharif. He couldn't abide by any of his presidents except the last one and we don't know if, given time, that one would have been out of favour as well. Take BB she had the same problem. Take Z.A. Bhutto even if he chose the wrong Chief of Army Staff, or at least I am sure he thought so in 1977."

"We need to send our budding PMs and presidents to a school where they must learn to make an appropriate selection."

"Well, considering the number of PMs we have had soon we will have more ex-PMs than there are MNAs."

"So?"

"So the ex-PMs and presidents must have learned some lessons."

"I doubt it. See when they come to power they want complete obedience and you know they forget they have not hired a robot but a human being and unfortunately human beings do have thoughts sometimes that are not in conformity with the power that be..."

"So we need a system?"

"We need the old democracy because in that the system regenerates itself and not people."

"Not in the national interest, sorry."

"Ah yes! That irrefutable argument."
